AbstractThe 15th annual summer symposia sponsored by the School of Library Science of Syracuse University invited speakers who represented efforts to humanize knowledge in the social sciences. They described their recent efforts in a neglected research area, namely the role and status of blacks in society. Dr. Charles V. Willie, a sociologist, presented his study about black students in white colleges. Dr. Gloria C. Oden, a poet-historian-lawyer, presented a study of the black experience in Colonial America. The role of the librarian in this humanizing process is examined in an article by Dr. Allan Hershfield and in one by Dr. Norman Thomas Uphoff. The Hershfield and Uphoff articles are reviewed by J. I.
